Ukraine counterattacks in Russia’s Kursk region

After being on the defensive for months, the Ukrainians returned to attack Kursk, a border region, partially taken over by Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry reported this Sunday (5) that they were repelling enemy troops. However, according to reports from Russian bloggers, rumors grew that troops led by Putin were under pressure in the region.

“At around 9 am local time (3 am in Brasilia), the enemy launched a counterattack to prevent the advance of Russian troops in the Kursk area,” the Ministry said.

The operation was also confirmed by Ukrainian officials, but it was not clear how far Kiev had managed to advance on Kursk. Last Saturday (4), Volodimir Zelenski declared that the Russians lost an entire battalion of North Korean soldiers and paratroopers in just two days.

They also confirmed that North Korea sent 11,000 soldiers to the city of Kursk to support Kremlin troops.

Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of staff, declared on Telegram that: “Russia is getting what it deserves.”

Hours after the start of the offensive, Yuri Podolyak, one of the Russian bloggers covering the war, stated that Russian troops made “mistakes” but regained control.

Since the American election, the conflict has intensified. Trump, in turn, used the campaign to say he would “pacify conflicts” and promised to bring the war to a quick end.
