Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau announced this evening (Monday) his resignation, this after failing in his attempts to deal with the cost of living crisis and with the sharp deterioration in the rates of public support for his party. Trudeau has said he will effectively retire once his party chooses a replacement.
By the end of the year, Canada is expected to enter an election system following the resignation. The leader of the conservative opposition and the leading candidate for victory in the elections, Pierre Puliavis known as a supporter of Israel and has stated in the past: “Attack in Iran – Israel’s gift to humanity.”
Trudeau entered political life in 2008. He has served as leader of the Liberal Party since 2013 and has served as Prime Minister of Canada for the past nine years, after being elected in 2015.
In his resignation announcement, Trudeau said: “During the holidays I had the opportunity to take stock and have long conversations with my family. Yesterday at dinner I told my children what I am telling you here today – I decided to step down from my position as party leader and prime minister.” He later said: “If I have to fight internal battles, I will not be the best option in the next election.”

Trudeau, 53, the longest-serving leader of the G7 nations, will remain in office until a replacement is chosen. Parliament was suspended until March 24 during the process of choosing a successor, who is expected to be Canada’s 24th prime minister. A general election is expected to be held by October, but may be held earlier in light of the announcement by the three main opposition parties of their support for a motion of no confidence in the government.
According to a Bloomberg report, the fatal blow to Trudeau came precisely from the direction of his closest ally, Christia FreelandDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Freeland, considered one of his staunchest supporters, shocked the country on Dec. 16 when she published a scathing resignation letter in which she indirectly criticized “expensive political stunts” as Canada prepares for a possible trade war with the United States.
The Trudeau government, which began its journey in 2015 with a promise of “happy roads” and a gender-equal cabinet for the first time in Canadian history, had to deal with the corona crisis that led to the largest budget deficit in the country’s history. In addition, the country experienced mass protests against the vaccination policy, including the truck drivers’ protest that took over the capital Ottawa for three weeks. Trudeau’s use of emergency laws to clear the protest was later struck down by the court.
Among the potential candidates to replace Trudeau as leader of the Liberal Party are his deputy Freeland; Dominique LeBlanc Trudeau’s childhood friend and Freeland’s replacement as finance minister; Foreign Minister Melanie Jolly; and Horny soup the former Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.
Trudeau’s departure will leave the party without a permanent leader at a time when public opinion polls show that Canada’s Liberals are expected to suffer a crushing loss to the opposition Conservatives in elections due by the end of October.
Trudeau’s retirement comes when the Liberals’ situation in the polls is not easy. The data show that the conservative party in the opposition is in charge Pierre Puliavmarching towards a big victory in the upcoming elections. Polyav managed to garner significant support while focusing on economic issues, especially the housing crisis and inflation that have hit Canadian households hard. Poliav – who is sometimes called “the Canadian Trump” – is considered to have distinct pro-Israel positions.

Since 10/7, Polyav has spoken quite a bit in favor of Israel’s right to self-defense, and he has done so in blunt and clear words. Among other things, he said that if Israel attacks Iran, it will be “a gift that the Jewish state will give to all of humanity.” He also promised that a government led by him will oppose anti-Israeli resolutions at the UN, stop funding UNRWA and guarantee that Canadian aid money “goes to the Palestinian people who are suffering and not to those who promote terrorism in UNRWA.”
