Syrian Foreign Minister visits Qatar

Foreign Minister of the Syrian Transitional Government Asaad al-Shibani met in Doha with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, who also heads the Qatari foreign ministry.

The Syrian delegation also included Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra and intelligence chief Anas Hassan Khattab. Bilateral cooperation and ways to strengthen it, recent events in Syria, Qatar’s provision of humanitarian assistance and other issues of mutual interest were reportedly discussed.

The new Syrian authorities are actively establishing international relations. A few days ago, al-Shibani visited Saudi Arabia, and the current tour program includes visits to Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The foreign ministers of Germany and France visited Damascus.

The international community has recognized the legitimacy of the government created by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, which overthrew the regime of Bashar al-Assad. The main foreign policy task of the new authorities is to lift international sanctions from Syria.
