But this time Trump, who in recent weeks has several times ironically called Trudeau “governor”, explicitly outlines the advantages that Canada would have if “it joined the United States: there would be no tariffs, taxes would go down and they would be completely safe from the threats of Russian Chinese ships that constantly surround them. Together – he concludes – what a great nation we would be.”

Greenland is Trump’s other real or perceived objective. The island, which the tycoon would like to purchase, is considered fundamental for the security of the United States. It is not too surprising, therefore, that Donald Trump jr., the president’s eldest son, intends to visit the autonomous territory belonging to Denmark. “We have taken note of the planned visit to Greenland by Donald Trump Jr. Since it is not an official American visit, we have no further comments to make,” the position of the Danish Foreign Ministry.

Before Christmas, the president-elect said: “For the purposes of freedom and national security around the world, the United States believes that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.” The response from the island located in the Arctic was immediate, making it known that it was not for sale, as already said in 2019, when Trump himself had made similar statements.
