Diab Abu Jahja: the Hezbollah man who persecutes IDF soldiers abroad

Diab Abu Jahja the man behind the current legal fight against IDF soldiers around the world, has turned the legal arena into a central front in his fight against Israel. According to Dr. Haim IsarowitzDeputy Director and Chief Researcher at the Information Center for Intelligence and Terrorism named Major Meir Amit, this is a worrying development in the anti-Israel action patterns in Europe.

“They realized it was a tool they could use,” Isarowitz explains. “We see it with the Palestinian Authority, as soon as the international courts and the systems are overturned, we have already seen it for years, remember it with Tzipi Livni, Doron Almog all kinds of arrest warrants, and now they simply turn it into a central tool in the war against Israel.’

Abu Jahja’s background is of particular concern. “In the end, he is a Hezbollah man,” emphasizes Isarowitz. “As much as he now tries to deny and say, in the end he is a man who grew out of Hezbollah, I assume that he has connections with them, I assume that he still maintains dialogue with them. I’m not saying they’re behind the activity, but it’s not something you detach yourself from.’

Despite his loud activity, his political power is limited. “He is loud, he stands out, he has been standing out for twenty years,” says Isrowitz, “but real support, like last June he ran, he led a list in the parliamentary elections in Brussels. So he got a total of two thousand votes. To say that there is support there, like something that rides on it, there are anti-Israeli voices, true, but it’s not something that garners political support.”

However, its strategic location gives it a significant advantage. “The man works in Brussels, near the heart of the European Union. Right across the border he has the Netherlands where the Hague Tribunal is located and he uses it to promote himself, his anti-Israeli interests,” Isarowitz points out.

Abu Jahja’s political connections spread across the European arena. “In the end there are contacts there,” Isarowitz explains. “As if the people also support, say, Melanchon in France, again, the extreme left, really, and they do. In fact, the fact that he sits in Brussels, is definitely an attempt to get closer to those anti-Israel elements on the extreme left who even sit in the European Parliament.”

His current legal activity fits into a wider campaign. “We can look when we look at the overall picture, so it is clear that there is an all-out legal war against Israel,” says Isarowitz. “Also the arrest warrants against the Prime Minister and former Defense Minister Gallant, as well as the lawsuit in The Hague that South Africa is leading and other countries will join.”

The researcher warns against the use of social networks: “Unfortunately, too many photos are used that our fighters do not know how to stop themselves, and upload too many photos and too much information to social networks.”
