A powerful earthquake hit Tibet; Dozens killed and injured in the incident

A strong earthquake struck during the night (between Monday and Tuesday) in the city of Tingri in Tibet. So far, at least 53 people have been killed and at least 62 more injured, according to Chinese media reports. The powerful earthquake, which hit the region with a magnitude of 6.8, was also felt in the neighboring countries, Nepal, Bhutan and northern India.

The area of ​​Tibet is considered a dangerous area in terms of earthquakes, and throughout history at least 18 of them with an intensity exceeding 8 and about 100 more with magnitudes 7-7.9 have been recorded there. The last earthquake that significantly affected the Tibet region was the strong earthquake whose epicenter was in Nepal and whose magnitude reached 7.8, causing avalanches in the region, extensive destruction of houses as well as dozens of dead and hundreds of injured.
