Mystery on the JetBlue flight, two bodies found during an inspection

It’s yellow on a JetBlue Airways flight. Two lifeless bodies were in fact found in the compartment of the plane that landed in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood after departing from JFK airport in New York. We learn this from the US media, which cite the report from the Broward sheriff and the medical examiners.

JetBlue, a low-cost airline based in Long Island City, Queens, New York, announced that two people were found dead in the landing gear compartment of the plane yesterday evening. The bodies were found during a routine inspection after the plane arrived in Florida.

“At the moment, The identities of the individuals and how they gained access to the aircraft remain under investigation, JetBlue said. This is a heartbreaking situation and we are committed to working closely with the authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred.”

The reconstruction: “Temperatures below zero in the trolley compartment”

According to a reconstruction by CBS News, the Airbus A320 left JFK last night at 8.20pm, when the temperatures outside were freezing and below zero degrees. The plane arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a few minutes late, at 11.03pm.

The Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Squad is working to understand how the two people ended up in the compartment, while the medical examiner’s office will perform autopsies to determine the cause of their deaths. The undercarriage compartment is not pressurized or heated and temperatures at altitude are well below freezing, so hiding inside almost always leads to death, CBS writes.
