WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The body of former US President Jimmy Carter will arrive in Washington on Tuesday, where he will lie in state in the Congress building as part of a three-day mourning period before the funeral ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral on Thursday. The state funeral of the 39th US President will be held as Republican President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take power from Democratic President Joe Biden. Security measures were tightened in Washington more than usual, and the Congress building was surrounded by a fence for several kilometers before Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Carter, a Democrat who served one term as president from 1977 to 1981, died on December 29 at the age of 100.
