Qatar and Saudi Arabia sent shipments of humanitarian aid to the needy in Syria yesterday (Monday), after the fall of the Assad regime in Damascus last month, the “Andolo” news agency reported.

According to the statement of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a plane of the Qatari Air Force landed at Damascus International Airport with 23 tons of food and shelter equipment on board on behalf of the Qatari Development Fund and the Qatari Charity Organization. This is the third flight that lands in Damascus and the eighth on the Qatar Airways, which is intended to help and improve the humanitarian situation of the Syrians.

At the same time, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that 60 Saudi trucks loaded with food, medical equipment and shelter equipment entered Syria through the Nazim border crossing, as part of the Aid Center’s aid operation King Salman’s humanitarian. In addition, last night another 60 Saudi trucks entered Syria through the Jaber border crossing in Jordan.

Bashar al-Assad, who ruled the country for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia following the takeover of Damascus by opposition forces on December 8. The takeover was completed after a lightning attack by “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” fighters that lasted less than two weeks. Now the country is run by a new government headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Since the beginning of the regime change, six Saudi aid flights have landed in Damascus, and five more flights from Qatar arrived in Syria via Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.
