The fire started on January 7 in the Pacific Palisades area, near Santa Monica. The spread of fire is facilitated by dry gusty winds, the speed of which exceeds 100 kilometers per hour. The flames covered an area of ​​1,182 hectares. Airplanes and helicopters are used to extinguish the fire. Bulldozers clear roads from cars abandoned during the evacuation.

US President Joe Biden is in California. He arrived in this state to take part in the opening of the monument to the indigenous people of America. The event had to be postponed until next week.

The head of state said that the federal government will provide the state with any necessary assistance. A federal fund has been created to reimburse California for the costs of fighting the fire.
