Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Saturday, January 11, the completion of a large-scale operation to arrest members of a spy cell operating in Khuzestan province in the southwest of the country.
According to the IRGC, the spies acted “in the interests of one of the Persian Gulf countries.” An IRGC statement published by Iran’s Tasnim news agency said that “the spy cell was collecting classified information about vital installations in the province.”
According to the IRGC, the members of the spy group were arrested based on intelligence received and 24-hour surveillance. The message does not indicate the citizenship of the detainees.
