The number of victims of catastrophic fires in Los Angeles has reached 11. Currently, 6 large fires continue to rage in the Los Angeles area in a total area of 15 thousand hectares.
Firefighters declared that they were able to partially localize and take control of the two largest fires in the Altadina and Pacific Palisades areas.
In those areas, the authorities evacuated the population, declared a curfew and involved the National Guard to carry out enhanced surveillance in the area in order to exclude possible cases of looting in abandoned houses.
The meteorological service announced that the wind speed will decrease these days, which will make the work of the firefighters a little easier.
US President Joe Biden said that what is happening reminds him of a war scene. He promised that the federal government will compensate the losses within 6 months.
Until then, people organize themselves on the spot and collect basic food and clothing for those left without a home or place.
At the same time, people’s anger is growing because of the unpreparedness of the officials for the disaster, in particular, that there was not enough water in the water reservoirs intended for the fire.
Gov. Gavin Newsom said the lack of water at the beginning of the fires was “deeply troubling” and that it was necessary to understand how it happened and to completely review the city’s utilities.
