In Malibu, 32-year-old actor Rory Sykes, who suffered from cerebral palsy, died in a fire. Sykes gained fame as a child when he took part in the program Kiddy Kapers. He also starred in several films.
His death was announced by his mother, actress and writer Shelley Sykes. She said that she tried to extinguish the sparks that fell on the roof of the building with water from a hose, but this failed because the city administration turned off the water.
“He said: Mom, leave me. But what kind of mother can leave her son. Because of my broken arm, I couldn’t lift him,” Shelley said. She went in search of firefighters, but when she brought them to the scene, she discovered a burnt house.
“He overcame so many surgeries, procedures. This allowed him to regain his sight, he began to learn to walk. Despite the pain, he loved to travel with me so much. We traveled all over the world, visited Africa, Antarctica,” Sykes said on social media networks.
According to updated data, at least 16 people became victims of fires in California. More than 10,000 homes burned and damage exceeded $50 billion. There are also reports of looting, as well as significant increases in rental prices in areas not affected by the fires.
