Six people have died in one explosion and subsequent fire registered on Saturday night at the U Kojota restaurant in the Czech town of Most in which eight others have also been injured, firefighters reported on Sunday, Efe reports.
The probable cause of the accident is overturning of a gas heater as indicated on the social network Facebook by the fire department of the Ústí nad Labem region, in the northwest of the country.
The wounded, six of them in serious condition have been admitted to several hospital centers in Prague, Most and the regional capital of Usti nad Labem. One of the firefighters who participated in the extinguishing efforts has also suffered injuries.
“The fire spread extremely quickly after the probable overturning of a gas heater,” firefighters declared in X, reported AFP.
The Minister of the Interior, White Rakusan told X that firefighters had evacuated around thirty people from the restaurant and an adjacent apartment block.
He mayor of Most Marek Hrvol, said it was the worst tragedy of that kind in recent history of the city.
The fire broke out late on Saturday in a restaurant in the city of Most, about 70 kilometers from the capital, Prague. It took more than 60 firefighters working until one in the morning to control the fire.
An investigation is underway into the incident.
