Edmundo González will attend Trump’s inauguration

Venezuelan opponent Edmundo González, self-proclaimed president-elect after last summer’s elections, has announced that he will attend the inauguration of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, in Washington next Monday.

This was confirmed by his campaign team in a statement published on social networks, where he specified that it was the US Government itself that invited “the legitimate president of Venezuela” to Trump’s inauguration.

“González has confirmed his attendance and will travel this weekend to the city of Washington, where he also hopes to meet with other members of the new administration,” Comando Con Venezuela added in the aforementioned letter.

González has assured that he will take advantage of “all spaces to defend the will of Venezuelans” and has celebrated that “every day more international allies are joining this fight”, including the United States, “a great ally of the cause.”

At the end of last July, Venezuela held presidential elections after which the ruling party gave victory to President Nicolás Maduro by a narrow margin of votes, although the opposition denounced fraud in the recount of the minutes and claimed González’s victory.

Thus, both Maduro and González defended their intention to each take office as legitimate president of Venezuela. Finally, Maduro was sworn in again as president in the National Assembly, while the opponent has not even been able to return to the country.
