The World Health Organization needs $1.5 billion to confront emergency crises

Geneva – (AFP) The World Health Organization requested, on Thursday, $1.5 billion to support its activities in 2025 in light of “unprecedented global health crises.” The Director-General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said: “This year, the World Health Organization seeks to mobilize $1.5 billion to support its vital work in the emergencies we are witnessing and to respond quickly to new crises.” He added: “Without adequate and sustainable funding, we will have to face the intractable dilemma of determining who will receive care and who will not.” This amount would help confront “unprecedented global health crises” linked to conflicts, climate change, epidemics, and population displacement.
