Ostrock legend dies at the age of 68: Ex-“Puhdys” drummer Klaus Scharfschwerdt is dead – Berlin

Klaus Scharfschwerdt, the longstanding drummer of “Puhdys,” an East German rock band, has died. He passed away on Friday, at the age of 68, from cancer.

“Deep pain engulfs us; we are speechless.” Nonetheless, we regret to inform you that our Klaus Scharfschwert passed away last Friday after a long battle with cancer. He was usually brave and optimistic. We shared this optimism and were certain: He can accomplish it! Regrettably, it was not to be. Please provide us with the calm time we require as a family right now. He also requested that the funeral service be limited to his immediate family. Please keep that in mind. “Thank you very much.”

From 1979 through 2016, Klaus Scharfschwerdt was the Puhdys’ drummer. He was named the best drummer in the GDR in the mid-1980s. He was most recently a resident of Berlin-Rahnsdorf.
