Klaus Scharfschwerdt, the longstanding drummer of “Puhdys,” an East German rock band, has died. He passed away on Friday, at the age of 68, from cancer.

He was usually brave and optimistic. We shared this optimism and were certain: He can accomplish it! Regrettably, it was not to be. From 1979 through 2016, Klaus Scharfschwerdt was the Puhdys’ drummer. He was named the best drummer in the GDR in the mid-1980s. He was most recently a resident of Berlin-Rahnsdorf.
