The man who drove his car into a crowd in the Chinese city of Zhuhai, Guangdong province, in November was executed on Monday, state television channel CCTV reported. The attack – the worst in a decade in China – left 35 dead.
Fan Weiqiu drove his SUV into a group of people exercising outside a sports complex in Zhuhai on November 11. He was arrested on the spot after he injured himself with a knife and fell into a coma. Anger over his broken marriage, personal frustrations and his dissatisfaction with the division of assets after the divorce are said to have been the basis for his violent act. At the end of December, Weiqiu was sentenced to death.
