The government of the Palestinian Authority will hold a special meeting on the evening of January 19 dedicated to establishing coordination of ministries and departments on the issue of reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
The head of the government press service, Muhammad Abu al-Rub, called the priority tasks the restoration of the water supply, the delivery of fuel to Gaza, as well as the resumption of the work of medical institutions, which will have to provide assistance to tens of thousands of victims.
The official’s statement, quoted by the Maan agency, speaks of the need for cooperation with international organizations and local governments. It is unclear whether this refers to the Hamas administration.
Let us recall: on January 17, after the announcement of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the administration of Mahmoud Abbas confirmed that it “takes full responsibility for the management of the sector.”
According to a statement from the PA administration, “the Palestinian government has completed all preparations and the security forces are fully prepared to carry out all their responsibilities: alleviating the suffering of the people, returning refugees to their homes, managing checkpoints and restoring public infrastructure, water and electricity supplies.”
