Trump calls Austria “forest nation” (again)

Donald Trumps The image of Austria is unlikely to have changed in the past five years. At least his latest and first major interview, which the newly inaugurated US President gave to his home and court station, awakens Fox News gave this impression.

In connection with the wildfires in California, Trump criticized that California should take better care of its forests. And: Various heads of state from Europe – including Finland and Austria – explained to him: “We live in a forest, we are a forest nation,” Trump said Fox News. It’s also “nice to be able to say that, right?” asks Trump.

These heads of state, who, according to Trump’s narrative, live in a forest, also said that their (in Austria and Finland) “magnificent trees are much more beautiful than those in California and more flammable. We don’t have forest fires, we take care of our forests.” . Trump continues that these states would cut down trees, but the forest floor would be cleaned up.

The US President’s forest reports about Austria are not new. As early as 2020, the then incumbent US President described Austria as an example of European “forest cities” in connection with forest fires in California.
