EU country increases speed limit

Threshold – In Germany, among other things, the Greens and Environmental Aid are calling for a speed limit of 130 on motorways. The opposite is now happening to our neighbors. The speed limit is increased there. So it could soon go from Saxony via the highway to Prague even faster.

In the Czech Republic, a speed limit of 150 km/h is tested on some motorways instead of the 130 km/h, which was previously allowed. Like the news portal Czech Republic News reports on the D3 between Tábor and České Budějovice (Budweis) with the test.

Change traffic signs are attached

“Drivers have to expect so -called change traffic signs,” explained Jan Rýdl, spokesman for the management for roads and highways TV-Sender ČT24. In the case of fog or heavy rain, the speed limit should be automatically corrected downwards.

An increase in the permitted top speed is also to be made on the motorway sections of the D1 between Přerov and Ostrava or on the D11 at Hradec Králové (Czech Republic) take place.

“We also want to evaluate how the increased limit is accepted by the population and whether there is an increase in accidents,” said Transport Minister Martin Kupka (49, ODS) to the TV station.

The speed limit is to be increased in July

After completing the tender procedure for the signage, the new traffic signs are to be started in March or April. At the beginning of July it should go over the highway with 150 things.

In our neighboring country, the top speed from then 120 to 130 km/h was raised for the last time in 1997. A new road traffic regulations that came into force in early 2024 makes it possible to increase the speed limit.

In addition to Italy, the Czech Republic is the second country in the European Union that opposes the general trend to reduce the permissible maximum speed for reasons of climate protection.
