The Russian delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikhail Bogdanov, who visited Damascus, negotiated with the actual head of Syria Ahmad Ash-Sharaa and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad Ash-Shiban.
The main issue on the agenda was the preservation of Russian bases located on Syrian territory. According to the results of negotiations, Bogdanov admitted: the mission was unsuccessful. “This issue requires additional negotiations,” Interfax quoted the official.
“We expressed gratitude for the fact that our citizens and objects did not suffer as a result of the events of the last weeks. And we expressed the hope that such a line will remain, that our interests will not suffer in Syria,” added the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Trade and economic relations were also discussed. The Russian side expressed their readiness to participate in the development of the Syrian infrastructure.
Last week, it became known that the new Syria government was canceled the investment agreement on the management of the sea port of Tartus, concluded in 2019 with the Russian side. The restructuring of the port of Tartus has begun in order to restore its full -fledged work.
