Ahmed al Shara, De facto ‘leader of Syria, appointed transition president

Syria’s ‘de facto’ leader, Ahmed Husein al Shara, known as ‘Abú Mohamed al Golani’, has been appointed Wednesday transition president after the coalition formed by jihadists and rebels took last December the capital, the capital, Damascus, ending more than 50 years of family regime of the Assad.

Al Shara has explained in a speech on the occasion of his appointment that his priorities are to preserve civil peace, rebuild state institutions, work to recover Syria’s economic fabric and return to Syria its international and regional status.

The spokesman of the Department of Military Operations, Colonel Hasan Abdel Ghani, has reported that the 2012 Constitution has been abolished and that both the Baaz party of the former Syrian president Bashar al Assad and the Syrian Parliament have been dissolved.

The appointment of Al Shara, whose objective will be to form a Legislative Council to walk the transition, also implies the dissolution of all security services linked to the overthrown Syrian regime, as well as the military factions that it established during its mandate.

The Foreign Minister Hasan to the Shibani, has affirmed during the act that “the main objective of Syrian foreign policy is to contribute to create a regional and international situation that enjoys joint cooperation, mutual respect and strategic associations.”

Al Shara, head of the jihadist organization Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), has become the country’s ‘de facto’ leader after the Assad fled Russia after a lightning offensive by the rebels that culminated last month December with the capture of the capital, Damascus.
