Italia-Perù, a stamp to celebrate 150 years of relationships

“2024 was an extraordinary year for the relaunch of our relationships and for 2025 we hope to match the successes of the year just passed. A goal for which I am confident”. This is what the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs said Maria Tripodi, speaking to the Farnesina during a ceremony to present the commemorative stamp issued on the occasion of the 150 years of Italian-Peruvian diplomatic reports, formally started on December 23, 1874 with the signature of the friendship treaty, trade and navigation.

In the event, in which Tripodi was attended by the delegation of Minister Antonio Tajani, the Ambassador of Peru was also present in Italy, Manuel Cacho-Sousa and also took part in representatives of the Ministry of Companies and Made in Italy, of Poste Italiane and of the polygraphic institution – State Mint, entities that contributed to the realization of the philatelic issue. The stamp depicts the Palazzo di Torre Tagle, home of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Peru, and the building of the Italian Foreign Ministry, with the famous “sphere” of Arnaldo Pomodoro in the foreground.

“The friendship between Italy and Peru is deep, sincere and inseparable – said Tripodi – and is reflected in the excellent state of our bilateral relationships, as well as in the strategic complementarity of our economies, which the Italian government is determined to deepen and intensify . Infrastructure, energy, logistics, chemistry, pharmaceutical, environment, agriculture are just some of the sectors in which Italians and Peruvians can, together, reach success “.

“Farnesina always remains alongside Italian companies and our Embassy in Lima”, led by the ambassador Massimiliano Mazzanti, “is a sure point of reference for all Italian entrepreneurs who want to discover the opportunities of this wonderful country” continued the Undersecretary, remembering how also thanks to the numerous and respective communities of expatriates, perfectly integrated, Peru remains for Italy a market of great interest in the Latin American region, with a continuously growing exchange. 1.3 billion euros, an increase of almost 10% compared to 2022, with a trend confirmed also in 2024, already having already reached almost 1.2 billion euros at the end of October.

“Today we do not present only a stamp – Tripodi said – but a real symbol of the relaunch of our political and strategic dialogue, which took place last September in Lima, exactly in the Palazzo di Torre Tagle, on the occasion of the mechanism of political conculthments bilateral that I had the honor of presiding together with the deputy foreign minister of Peru Peter Camino Cannock. A dialogue that we hope can continue with the same momentum in view of the next Italy – Latin America and Caribbean Conference to be held in the autumn in Rome “, concluded the Undersecretary.

“The launch of the stamp – echoed the Cacho -Sousa ambassador – underlines the dynamic and effective collaboration between our two countries”.
