Georgian police have arrested several anti-government protests on Sunday. Thousands of protesters who demand the new parliamentary elections have shut down the highway on the outskirts of the country’s capital Tbilisi.
Reuters reports that Nika Melia, the leader of the country’s largest opposition, “Coalition for Change”, is one of the detainees. According to local media, former Tbilisi Mayor Georgi Ugulava has been arrested.
Georgians have been holding night protests since November, when the ruling Georgian Dream party has stated that it stops joining the European Union until 2028.
