The Argentine presidential spokesman said the country would withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than two weeks later the similar US decision.
“President Javier Milei has instructed Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein to be in charge of Argentina’s withdrawal from WHO,” Manuel Adorni, a spokesman for President Argentina, said at the regular press conference on February 5.
Adorni said the decision was made based on “deep differences” on the medical management between Argentina and WHO, especially during the pandemic period, emphasizing that the country has undergone “the longest blockade in order in Human history “under the government of former President Alberto Fernandez. Adorni added that WHO has lost its “independence” due to political influence from some countries.
According to the instructions of President Milei, Foreign Minister Werthein and his colleagues are analyzing legal effects when Argentina withdrew from international organizations.

The government is ruling by the ruling La Libertad Avanza that Argentina is participating in many international organizations that require many budget contributions without bringing any benefits to this South American nation.
The decision was made by Argentina for more than two weeks after US President Donald Trump signed an American decree from WHO. Mr. Trump also said that WHO did not handle Covid-19 pandemic and other global health crises for not having the necessary reforms, criticizing the agency that lacked independence from political effects. . In addition, the US president said that WHO asked Washington to contribute too much and injustice compared to other countries.
WHO is the UN’s leading health agency, established in 1948, with the main mission of supporting and protecting global health. To achieve that goal, WHO coordinate international efforts, set medical standards, provide aid and conduct research to improve health problems.
WHO operates by compulsory fees from member countries, along with voluntary contributions and investment. WHO’s current budget is about US $ 6.8 billion, of which the US contributes about 20%.
