Arab media: Israel invited Egypt to amend the Camp-David agreements

Al-Arabi al-Jadid writes that the Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo last Friday and spent several hours there. The purpose of the visit was to discuss security measures on the borders of Egypt and Israel, as well as Egypt and Gaza sector after a partial withdrawal of Israeli military from the Philadelphia corridor.

Representatives of Israel raised the question of the accumulation of Egyptian military equipment in the zone “C”, in which, in accordance with the Camp-David agreements, only the peacekeeping forces of the UN and the police can be located. The introduction of additional forces in the demilitarized zone Egypt had to agree with Israel, and the violation of this item creates Casus Belli.

According to Al-Arab al-Jadid, the Egyptian military accused Israel of violation of the agreements, and said that every violation from Israel would entail a symmetrical answer. After that, representatives of Jerusalem proposed amending part of the Camp-David agreements, which, according to them, ceased to meet the situation in the place. Egypt expressed his readiness to continue the discussion after careful preparation so that the amendments made did not lead to a breakdown of the agreements existing within the agreement.

It should be noted that over the past 12 years, Israel has not grown consent to the transfer to the demilitarized Sinai Peninsula of additional military units to combat radical Islamic groups there.

In 2022, the media reported that the Israeli government gave its consent to the transfer of Saudi Arabia to Egypt of Sanafir and Tyran in the Red Sea Tiran. The overlap of the strait in 1967 became the basis for Israel for the beginning of the six -day war, during which control was established, including over the Sinai Peninsula. According to the terms of the agreement between Egypt and Saudi Arabia from 2016, the island was transferred to the kingdom, however, since they were part of a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, the consent of Israel was required for their final transfer.
