Six villages near volcano have to evacuate on Indonesian island of Flores

The volcano, located in the east of the island group, already erupted last November. Ten people were killed. Dozens of flights to and from Bali’s international airport, about eight hundred kilometers west of Flores, were deleted.

According to Muhammad Wafid, the director of the Indonesian geological agency, the visual and seismological monitoring pointed to a sudden increase in volcanic quakes. An eruption could take place in the future, he warns in a statement.

The evacuation zone was expanded from five to six kilometers around the crater. It concerns six villages, but it is not clear how many people have been affected.

Almost 130 volcanoes are active throughout Indonesia throughout Indonesia. The island state is on the Pacific ring of fire, an area known for seismic quakes.
