The first academy for cannabis farmers was born in South Africa

South Africa, pioneer in the legalization of cannabis in the African continent, is preparing to form the future protagonists of this flourishing industry. After the decriminalization in 2018 and the legalization for private use and doctor in 2024, the country takes a further step forward with the opening of the first academy dedicated to cannabis.During 2025, the State will recognize a higher education certificate for professions related to cannabis, opening new job opportunities in a rapid expansion sector. The Cheeba Academy, the first of its kind in Africa, will welcome about thirty students for a year of intensive formation.

 

The complete and avant -garde study program will cover all aspects of cannabis business: from economy and business management to cultivation, extraction and marketing. Students will have the opportunity to learn the most innovative techniques and to acquire the skills necessary to start a successful career in the sector. The initiative has already aroused great interest, with over one hundred requests for registration for the first thirty places available.

 

Cheeba Academy represents a concrete response to youth unemployment and an opportunity for economic growth for South Africa, which aims to create 130,000 jobs in the cannabis sector. However, training and licenses to cultivate cannabis remain expensive, raising concerns about access and the possibility that traditional and ancestral farmers, custodians of secular knowledge, are marginalized by the new companies.
