A federal judge of the Maryland district has temporarily blocked the executive order issued by US President Donald Trump that prohibits federal financing from health suppliers who offer treatments for trans people under 19 years.
Judge Brendan Hurson has paralyzed the measure after a collective claim presented by trans people and families of minors, who argued that the executive order is “illegal” because Trump has no authority to retain federal funds approved by Congress and that he also violates The fifth amendment.
The main lawyer on LGTBI issues of the American Union for civil liberties (ACLU), Joshua Block, has assured that the order “has sown fear among trans young people”, as well as “confusion” among the providers of health services.
“Suppliers who have suspended medical care for their trans patients should not have any doubt that they can raise these suspensions and continue to provide medical services, as well as act according to their best criteria without risking their financing,” he added in a statement.
The Executive Order signed by Trump specifically prohibits federal funds financed medical care related to the transition of trans people, including puberty blockers, hormonal therapies or sex reassignment surgeries for children under 19 years.
