Late in the evening on Saturday, February 15, in India, at the New Delhi railway station, about 20 people died in the crush, the Indian media reported. Judging by the reports, most victims are women and children.
The crowd gathered at the station to go to the festival of Mach Kumbha Mela, lasting for more than a month and ending on February 26.
The authorities confirm the death of at least 15 people. The NDTV television company states that at least 18 people died. 11 victims were delivered to hospitals.
In January, at the festival of Maha Kumbha Mela, held in the city of Prayagradzh, more than 40 people were killed at the confluence of the Gang and Yamuna rivers. Hundreds of people suffered. But the festival continued.
In just 45 days of the festival, it is expected that about 450 million people, including 1.5 million foreigners, will take part in it.
The festival of Mach Kumbha Mela, dedicated to Mauni Amavasya – the second new moon after the winter solstice, is held in the north of India every 12 years. It began on January 13th. Hundreds of millions of pilgrims who had battles in Ganga already took part in it.
