Sabren News: BPLs attacked the Russian Khmeimim air base in Syria

The Syrian Observator for Human Rights (SOHR) monitoring group proposed its version in connection with the reports of the Night BPLA attack on the Russian Basim air base, in the Latakia province, in the west of Syria. According to SOHR, “armed people from the remnants of the forces of the former regime (Assad) fired from RPGs and machine guns of the internal security forces near the Russian base of Khmeimim in the city of Jabla.” There was no information about the dead or wounded. SOHR reports that the “loud explosions” in the Khmeimim area were actually sounding of large -caliber machine guns. The Russian military opened fire, the message is noted. Judging by the SOHR message, there was no UAV attack.

The day before, Bloomberg, citing informed sources, reported that Russia would probably retain a limited military presence in Syria after the fall of the Assad regime. The agreement with the new authorities of Syria, apparently, will allow the Russian military to continue to keep part of the personnel and equipment in this country. One of the interlocutors of the agency, on the terms of anonymity, explained that the Kremlin seeks the right to continue to use the naval base in Tartus and the Khmeimim air base. According to Bloomberg sources, in exchange for the preservation of military presence, Russia can help the new Syrian authorities in the fight against the Islamic State group in the east of the country.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the “President of the Transition period of the Syrian Arab Republic” Ahmad Ash Sharaa (Abu Muhammad al-Julani). Soon after this conversation, the new Syrian government received the first batch of Assad’s money from Moscow.
