Next to the city of Khabaran in the center of Sri Lanka, the passenger train crashed into a herd of elephants. Six elephants died, two more were injured, they were assisted. The composition came off the rail, but there were no victims among people.

Collisions of trains with elephants occur on Sri Lanka not so rarely, they take the lives of 20 animals a year. However, the current incident is called the most difficult in many years.

On the island there are about 7,000 elephants. The transformation of their natural habitat into agricultural land leads to the fact that clashes with people are increasingly taking place. At the same time, the elephant on Sri Lanka is considered a sacred animal, and his murder is a criminal offense.
