The Romanian Public Prosecutor’s Office is leading 47 searches in five districts of the country, as part of a case linked to crimes against the constitutional order false information on the sources of financing of the election campaign or public instigation to commit a crime. The objective of the actions of the police is the group of Horacio Potra close collaborator of the politician Philorusso and former candidate for the Clin Georgescu.
According to the News.ro agency that cites judicial sources, Georgescu was arrested and conducted at the Prosecutor to be questioned. Georgescu was arrested while he was about to present his new candidacy for the presidency. The former candidate for the presidency wrote it on FB. According to reports from the Romanian information channel Digi24, the public ministries issued a stopping mandate against him and began to search the homes of his close collaborators and his bodyguard.
The Local Information Channel Antena 3 CNN reported that Georgescu is questioned in relation to the financing of his election campaign last year. The prosecutors suspect 27 people that they have acted against the Romanian constitutional order, public instigation, the start of a fascist organization and false declarations on the sources of financing of the election campaign, but in their declaration they did not make the name of Georgescu or his collaborators.
However, shortly after the spread of the news of the searches Georgescu published a post by stating that the searches had the purpose of blocking his new presidential candidacy. Romania has sunk in political chaos at the end of last year, when Georgescu won the first round of the presidential elections and should have faced the reformist Elena Lasconi in the second round.
The Romanian Constitutional Court canceled the first round of the presidential elections following an alleged Russian operation aimed at influencing the result. New elections are scheduled for May 4thwhile the ballot is scheduled for two weeks later, on May 18th. “The Communist-Brescevico system continues its hateful abuse”, “try to manufacture tests to justify electoral flaps doing everything to block my new presidential candidacy,” wrote Georgescu on FB. “In the name of my voters but also of those who, although they have other political options, want a democratic and free Romania, I am fighting this security system that it takes in slavery. We live in communism, there is nothing free and legal in everything that is happening. I will not surrender, I entrust on your support, above all and I will await you on Saturday in the plector”, he adds.
