The leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party Abdullah Ojalan, who was serving a life sentence, called on his supporters to dissolve this organization, lay down the weapon and stop the armed struggle against Turkey.
The statement of Ojalan, which is contained in a single chamber in prison on the island of Imrala, was read out by the deputies from the Prokurdi Party of Popular Equality and Democracy. “Calling to lay down the weapon, I will realize the historical importance of this step,” the statement said.
RPK, which is recognized by a terrorist group not only in Türkiye, but also the United States, is conducting an armed struggle for the independence of Kurdistan. The bloodshed that began in 1984 claimed the lives of 40,000 people. The last attempt to achieve a ceasefire failed in 2015.
