United States agency employees for International Development (USAID) fired on Thursday 15 minutes to collect their belongings, while the cuts continue to be made by the government of US President Donald Trump.
A source linked to USAID, accused of funding and promoting various progressive actions around the world, told EFE that employees affected by the layoffs have been notified that they have a maximum of 15 minutes to collect their personal belongings on Thursday and Friday at the institution’s headquarters in Washington.
The measure was taken a few hours after the Supreme Court granted a new momentary victory to Trump’s plans to close the agency.
The end of USAID has been one of the priorities in the intended cuts of both Trump and businessman Elon Musk, who informally commands the so -called Government Efficiency Department (Doge).
On Wednesday (26), the US Supreme Court suspended the deadline established by a court that required the Trump government to resume before midnight payment of about $ 2 billion in frozen foreign aid.
The order, announced by the president of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, is temporary in nature, as it gives the agency time to resolve the issue and gives the plaintiffs until Friday to argue whether the court who ordered the resumption of financing has indeed jurisdiction about the federal government in this matter.
Nevertheless, the former employees consider that USAID is closed. In a climate of pessimism, several were today to headquarters, located only 600 meters from the White House, and left with boxes loaded with belongings, avoiding speaking directly to the press.
