Elbe: heavy oil alarm! 42,000 liters expired in the Kattwykhafen

The tank is on the site of the Green Port company. According to its own statements, the company has specialized in the “management of residues, including collection, transport, storage and treatment, whereby the focus is on liquid oil residues.”

How the heavy oil tank could be overflowed is still unclear.

More than 90,000 cubic meters of water should already be dirty. The emergency services are now trying to prevent the oil from spreading the oil with floating oil barriers. A permanently installed water-air lock is intended to prevent the dirty water from running into the main stream of the Elbe.

A Police helicopter – equipped with special cameras – is in use so that the fire brigade can get an overview of the situation. Tomorrow will be decided on further measures.
