Starmer urges to strengthen ties with the US and says it would be “little serious” to take sides in the peace negotiations

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, has urged to strengthen the relationship with the United States and has said that it would be “little serious” to take sides between Washington and the European continent in the framework of negotiations to achieve peace in Ukraine.

“We must strengthen our relationship with the United States, for our security, for our technology, our trade and investment. They are and have always been indispensable. We will never choose between one or the other side of the Atlantic,” he said.

Starmer has thus reiterated before the House of Commons that what happened last week between Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, shows that Washington is “vital to guarantee peace” in Ukraine despite the fact that there are those who “enjoy the simplicity of taking sides.”

“I meet with satisfaction the constant commitment of the president (Trump) with that peace, a sincerity that no one in this chamber should doubt a second,” he said, adding that the United Kingdom will play a “prominent role” in the process to put an end to the conflict, which includes the possible sending of troops to Ukraine.

Their words occur after this Sunday European leaders have agreed during the London Summit to form a coalition willing to defend an agreement to end the Ukraine War and to be guarantors of peace.

Starmer, together with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, have proposed a partial truce of one month in an attempt to file roughness between Ukraine and the United States after the public discussion between the US president, Donald Trump, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, last Friday at the White House.
