More crimes in Brandenburg against politicians and offices

Destroyed election posters, insults and defamation: The police registered more crimes against politicians and more property damage in Brandenburg last year with around 470 crimes. The number corresponds to an increase of around 85 percent compared to the previous year, as can be seen from the answers of the Interior Ministry in Brandenburg to inquiries from former left-wing MP Andrea Johlige and SPD MP Andreas Noack.

Much of the crimes were directed against party offices, election workers, posters and information stands on the local, European and state elections last year. According to the Ministry, the most common crimes were property damage, slander, defamation, insults and the carrying of anti -constitutional license plates.

More offenses cleared up, more arrests

According to preliminary information, the police were able to clarify 230 offenses last year and investigate around 220 suspects. In the previous year, the officials had informed about 160 crimes and determined almost the same number of alleged criminals.

Offices of the Greens and the AfD, a little less from the SPD, CDU and Left Party were attacked. The figures for 2024 are temporarily run by the police because they can increase by investigating other cases.
