If Armenia has funded its CSTO budget by the CSTO, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said, “but not likely to expand him to RIA Novosti.”
And the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister did not elaborate on what other scenarios. He only brought the example of other countries, noting that “there have been cases when other countries have debts for technical, financial and other reasons.”
In February 2024, Armenia stated that it was freezing its participation in the CSTO events, and then refused to provide funding for this structure, but did not formally talk to the meetings of the CSTO.
Yerevan strongly criticizes the CSTO, especially in 2022, after the invasion of the Azerbaijani forces, when that structure did not only not defend its member, but also did not respond to Azerbaijan’s aggression.
In September 2024, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the CSTO poses threats to Armenia’s security, adding to Yerevan, it has frozen its membership in that structure.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in October in Warsaw during the International Security Forum, that Yerevan calculates all the risks of leaving the CSTO.
