The Korean court ordered the release of President Yoon Suk-Yeol

The Korean court canceled the arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol, paving the way to return him freedom, after he was arrested in mid-January.

“It is possible to conclude that the prosecution was conducted after the defendant’s detention period was over,” said the Central District Court of Seoul. “To ensure transparency procedures, eliminate doubts regarding the legality of the investigation process, the decision to cancel the temporary custody order Mr. Yoon is appropriate.”

The president’s lawyers filed a request for cancellation of the arrest of him last month, arguing that the custody of him was illegal because the prosecutors had been waiting for too long to prosecute.

Yoon’s lawyer said he may not be released immediately because the prosecutors could appeal. The prosecutor’s office has not commented on the court’s ruling.
