Furlan leaves the Democratic Party. There is alarm among the reformists: "Now a reflection is needed"

A farewell that weighs and sounds like an alarm bell at the ears of the leading DEM leaders. Annamaria Furlan, Pd Senator with a past as a trade union leader in the CISL, leaves the group and the party to migrate to Italian Italy. The Renzians, explains Furlan in the letter in which he announces farewell, guarantee greater communion of views on the themes that are politically “characterizing”, first of all the work.

It was Furlan one of the protagonists of the arm of iron internal to the PD on the bill for the participation of workers in the governance of companies. The dem, in the commission, asked and obtained to adopt the text of popular initiative proposed by the CISL as a basic text. Then, in the face of the changes made by the majority who, to say of the dem deputies, “distorted the text” until they make it “unrecognizable and dangerous for the rights of the workers”, voted against the mandate to the rapporteur (or against the arrival of the text itself in the classroom) and, at the time of the vote, they abstained. This is the “wound” that for Furlan it is not possible to heal. But not only.

The senator is also critical with respect to the idea of ​​a bill on the minimum salary, the flag of the PD to Schlein traction, as it believes this tool puts the bargain at risk. A position that is difficult to reconcile with that of the party and the secretary Elly Schlein that focuses on the minimum wages also to carry on the seam work with the other oppositions, starting with Five Stars and AVS.

But the political weight of Annamaria Furlan’s farewell to the Democratic Party is returned above all by the series of comments of dem exponents who accompanied him. All exponents of the party reformist team. That in the dem minority or, at least, in part of it the malaise has been mounting for a few weeks is testified by the distances on the bill participation of the workers in the governance of the company, on the referendum against the Jobs Act and, lastly, on the position of the leaders of the Democratic Party compared to the European rearmament plan of Ursula von der Leyen.

It is no coincidence that the first to show the regret for Furlan’s farewell were precisely those parliamentarians who exposed themselves firsthand in favor of Rearm Europe. Like Lorenzo Guerini, former Defense Minister and President of Copasir: “I am very sorry for the release from the Pd of Annamaria Furlan”, explains Guerini and then invited the party to ask himself about the reasons that led to the exit of the former unionist CISL.

Ignore those reasons, for Guerini, would be wrong. Sorry and invitation to reflect is the scheme that dominates the interventions. Thus, Senator Filippo Sensi says he is “saddened and afflicted for the choice of Annamaria Furlan to leave our Democratic Party and for the reasons, to be meditated, who brought it to a new journey”.

Another prominent exponent of the dem minority, Alessandro Alfieri, explains that he has received signs of malaise of Furlan in recent days and having learned last night of the will of the senator to leave the party. Concerns, says Alfieri, “that I shared, I did not share the choice to leave” because “I consider it an error. Now, however, it cannot be pretended to be anything and it is right to reflect on the reasons that led her to this choice”.

A reflection that takes place with the spectrum of seeing other parties of the party. To slide sources of the dem minority, “many are feeling in difficulty”, but at the moment there are no other exits on the horizon, even if in recent months “someone has been stopped on the door”. The climate is always tense on the European rearmament node, but there has not been such a “specific” fact as that of Furlan which, after spending on the infocated assembly of groups on the PDL participation, saw its party go straight to the no to the norm, before turning towards abstention.

Something felt by the former Cisl trade unionist as a “personal disadvantage”, says who with Furlan has worked in recent weeks. After that assembly, Furlan built a bridge with Italy Viva with which, by its own admission, there are more points in common. “It is an operation alongside the Democratic Party not against the Democratic Party”, says the leader of Italy Viva Matteo Renzi reiterating his intention to “speak in the center that looks to the left”.
