Israel bombed the Islamic Jihad headquarters in Damascus: The target was commanders who planned attacks

The IDF bombed the terrorist organization’s headquarters in Syria, and the documentation shows smoke rising from the destroyed building: “There are casualties.” Katz accepted responsibility: “Above all terrorist organizations, al-Julani will find the Air Force’s planes above him.” In the background: Fears of Hamas and Jihad becoming established under the new Syrian regime, which released Palestinian terrorists from Assad’s prison

The Air Force bombed the Islamic Jihad headquarters in Damascus, the Syrian capital, at noon (Thursday). The target was commanders in the Palestinian terrorist organization, who were planning attacks against IDF forces on the northern border and in the buffer zone. According to one report in Syria, eight people were injured in the attack.

A Syrian security source was reported by Reuters news agency that the target was a “Palestinian figure,” and at the same time, the Saudi channel “Al-Hadath” also claimed that the target was a senior Palestinian official. Photos from the building that was attacked, which according to reports is located in the area known as the “Damar Project” on the edge of Damascus, show extensive destruction and a lot of smoke rising.

Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the attack shortly after, saying: “Islamic terrorism against Israel will not have immunity, neither in Damascus nor anywhere else. Wherever terrorist activity is organized against Israel, the leader of extremist Islam, Gulani, will find the Air Force planes circling above him and attacking the terrorist targets. We will not allow Syria to become a threat to the State of Israel.”

The IDF said that the Jihad headquarters “planned and conducted terrorist operations by the organization,” and that Air Force fighter jets bombed it under the direction of the Northern Command and the Intelligence Branch. “The IDF will not allow terrorist organizations to establish themselves in Syrian territory and operate against the State of Israel, and will act forcefully against any such establishment. The IDF will continue to strike Palestinian terrorist organizations wherever it needs to and will continue to act to protect the citizens of the State of Israel.”

The attack at noon joins a series of Israeli attacks in Syria since the overthrow of the Assad regime in December last year, some of which are also carried out to prevent Palestinian terrorist elements from establishing themselves in the country under the new regime of the jihadists led by President Abu Muhammad al-Julani (whose real name is Ahmed al-Shara’). Israel is now demanding the complete demilitarization of the entire area south of Damascus, partly in light of this concern.
