The US envoy accuses Hamas of making “impracticable demands” without a high permanent fire

The US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has accused the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamás to make a double game in the high fire negotiations by exhibiting a “flexible” public facet while in the doors inward imposes demands that are “impracticable” without a previous cessation of permanent hostilities.

Witkoff’s statement occurs hours after Hamas announced his intention to release the American-Israeli Reen Edan Alexander, which was precisely one of the conditions demanded by the United States. However, Israel at first and now the White House have declared its absolute distrust of the proposal of the Palestinian Islamist movement.

Hamas demands negotiations to initiate a second stage of high fire that contemplates the Israeli military withdrawal of Gaza, something that neither the Israeli government nor Washington are considering.

In the middle of a delicate high the unilateral fire declared by Israel until the end of the Jewish Easter next month, the US offered a proposal “bridge” for which Hamas promised to free the living hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners while Washington acts as guarantor of the cessation of hostilities.

The announcement of Alexander’s next release has not made a dent in Witkoff, who has denounced that “unfortunately, Hamas has chosen to respond by affirming in public its flexibility, while in private it raises impatible impatible demands without a high permanent fire.”

Witkoff ends his message with a severe warning against Hamas. “They have made a bad commitment to believe that time runs in their favor and that is not so. Hamas is fully aware of the deadline and should know that we will respond accordingly if it expires,” said Trump’s envoy before insisting on the original message of the president of the United States, Donald Trump: “Or Hamas immediately releases all hostages or will pay a serious price.”
