Fire in a disco in Northern Macedonia. At least 50 deaths

A tragic fire broke out on the night between Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March 2025 in one Kočani disco a town located about 100 kilometers east of the capital Speople, in Macedonia del Nord. According to what reported by the MacFax agency At least 50 people have lost their lives in the accident with over 100 injured. At the time of the fire, in the disco there were about 1,500 people who were witnessing a concert. Local authorities are leading investigations to determine the causes of the stake and verify compliance with the safety standards in the room.

This tragic event is added to the list of fatal fires that took place in night clubs in recent decades. Second International Nightlife Association in the last 75 years 33 fires have occurred in discos around the world, causing a total of 3,779 victims. The most serious tragedy dates back to 1942, when 491 people lost their lives in the fire of “Cocoanut Grove” a Boston in the United States.

The Macedonian authorities declared three days of national mourning in memory of the victims, while the affected families are receiving psychological support and assistance from local institutions. The international community has expressed condolences and solidarity with the people of Northern Macedonia.
