In Paris, hundreds of people gathered in the Père-Lachaise cemetery to say goodbye to Emilie Dequenne. The Belgian actress, who is known for the films, among other things Rosetta in Closedied on March 16 at the age of 43 from the effects of cancer.
The farewell took place “without flowers and wreaths”. The family had made a call in advance for donations for cancer research. Various personalities from the film world attended farewell, such as the directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. With their film Rosetta From 1999 Dequenne debuted on the silver screen. The Belgian actress Natacha Régnier, among others, was also present.
There was a mourning register outside the cemetery. On the stairs of the crematorium, where a religious ceremony took place, a drawing by the actress was by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Inside there were two photos of the smiling actress, before and after the disease. One in black and white with long hair, the other in color with short hair.
In Chièvres, the Hainaut city from which Dequenne comes, a tribute will be organized when the mourning register is transferred to the family. Chièvres also provided a mourning register for her honorary citizen.
