2,000 signatures for cucumber production in Golßen

The Trade Union Food Guest Gaststics (NGG) has so far collected around 2,000 signatures to save the Spreewald cucumber production in Golßen (Dahme-Spreewald district). “Whether in the local bakery, in the sports club or other companies in the nutrition industry: the signature lists went around everywhere,” said the NGG. “Solidarity with the employees and the region is huge!”

The employee representatives demand that the owner of the fruit and vegetable processor Spreewald conserve Golßen (“Spreewaldhof”) rethink his decision to close the location. Politicians also have to use all available funds to save production, it said. “It’s about people, a region and the Spreewald Cucks tradition.”

The Spreewaldhof had announced at the end of January to stop cucumber production in Golßen and to concentrate them into the Schöneiche location. 220 jobs are affected by the changeover. Some of the employees should also be able to work in the work in Schöneiche, the company said. In addition, production in Golßen is still going normally this year.

According to its own statements, the company has been writing losses for years. The causes include Corona pandemic, the Ukraine War, increased costs and a declining market development. The Spreewaldhof (Spreewaldwernve Golßen GmbH) has been part of the French Andro Group since 2021. The company processes various types of fruit and vegetables. In East Germany, Spreewaldhof is one of the central providers for pickled cucumber.
