Five victims injured in stabbing on Dam Square in Amsterdam, the suspect has been overpowered and arrested

What exactly happened to the Dam, the square in the historic heart of Amsterdam, is still unclear. A police spokesperson says that a report of a robbery came in, but it is being investigated what the precise circumstances are. There would have been stabbed in several places. “We currently have no information about the reason or the motive of the stab incident. That is part of our investigation,” the police write in a message on social media.

The police first reported five injuries, including the suspect. In the meantime, the police are talking about injured five victims. The police are currently not sharing any further information about the medical condition of the victims, but Dutch media are writing that two of them are seriously injured. According to the Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool Are there an older man, a boy of student age, a young and an older woman among the victims.

The suspect can be seen on images on the street, while he is stopped on the floor by agents. He has not yet been interrogated because he had to be treated in the hospital for an injury to his leg.

Agents have arrived en masse, just like a trauma helicopter and several ambulances. The stab incident attracted a lot of attention. At live images around 3.45 pm at least fourteen police cars were shown and an agent on the motorcycle. Around 4.30 pm the trauma helicopter flew away again, after which the police removed the ribbons. Several stores in the area have closed the doors early.

Scream

A witness tells a reporter on Dam Square that “suddenly an icy scream could be heard”, then some panic broke out. But it was not immediately clear to him and bystanders what was going on. A store employee also says that she suddenly heard a lot of screams and screams and that people started running in the direction of the incident.

The police call on people not to come to Dam Square and the surrounding area. She also asks emergency services to give the space so that they can do their work, according to a spokesperson.
