Putin describes Trump’s threats on the annexation of Greenland as “serious”

“These plans have historical roots and it is evident that the United States will continue to systematically promote their geostrategic, political-military and economic interests in the Arctic,” he said, as the Interfax news agency has collected.

Putin has also affirmed that Moscow “has never threatened anyone in the Arctic”, although it follows “the situation in the region and has increased its combat capacity, while it has also promoted a modernization of military facilities.

“We will not allow interference in the sovereignty of our country. We will firmly protect our national interests, maintaining peace and stability in the Arctic, ensuring the long -term socio -economic development of the region,” he added.

The American tycoon already showed in his first mandate his interest in the island and, after his return in January to the White House, Greenland has included within a series of strategic geographical objectives for the sake of national security.
