The French public prosecutor’s office has demanded a 18 -month prison sentence and a fine of 20,000 euros for Gérard Depardieu (76). The French star actor is on trial in Paris for the alleged sexual violence against two women during the recordings of Green shutters in 2021.
The prosecutor also asked the court to grant the civil parties compensation and also linked a series of conditions to the postponement of the prison sentence. This includes, among other things, the obligation to undergo a psychological treatment, a dismay from the right for two years and a registration on the list of sex offenders.
The punishment demanded is lower than the maximum punishment of five years that Depardieu risked. The hearing will be continued on Thursday with the plea of the defense.
Since Monday in the Paris court, Depardieu has to answer for sexual cross -border behavior towards two women on the set of the film Green shutters in 2021. He would have touched the buttocks, breasts and genitals of a decorator. A director’s assistant accuses him of immoral touches on the film set and attack.
On Wednesday, several women testified in tears about how they had been treated by Depardieu, including the director’s assistant. “Mr Depardieu talked about sex all the time,” testified the 34-year-old woman. “To humiliate people. I was petrified when he touched me. I didn’t know what to say.”
On Tuesday, the first alleged victim, the 54-year-old decor designer Amélie K., spoke in court. On September 10, 2021, Depardieu would have grabbed her. He pinched her hard between his legs and touched her all over her body, up to her breasts, she said. The assault only stopped when someone pulled her off her. Amélie says he is drawn by the “cruelty” of Gérard Depardieu and the “pleasure” he experienced to “frighten her” as “a wild beast”.
Depardieu himself continues to deny that he has assaulted the women. “I may be vulgar and rough in my language, but I am not a betaster or a rapist,” said the 76-year-old French star actor. “I have been brought through the mud with lies and defamation for three years,” Depardieu said in his last words before he left the court on Thursday. His lawyer argued for the acquittal of his client as a victim of “intimidation”.
The judgment will be on 13 May, the Correctional Court of Paris announced on Thursday.
